Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well. Here's another update video.
This next year I really want to concentrate on building the community up, and getting more stuck in. I know I've been a little absent this year, and I'll get to that later in the video.
The first thing I wanted to announce is that I'm setting up a Secret Santa for this year, and wanted to invite you all to take part.
For those that have never done one before, it'll be an international gift exchange. You'll receive the name and address of a random person in the community, which could be anywhere in the world, and you can send them a gift. Someone else will send a gift to you. It's based on trust and positivity, so be honorable.
The theme of the gifts is basically the kind of things we talk about on this site, so technology, DIY hardware, privacy, crypto, 3D printing, virtual reality, cyberpunk fiction etc. There's no low or high price limits on the gifts, so buy, give or make what you like.
I set up an email address so you can send your name or pseudonym and your address to.
The cutoff date is the weekend of Saturday 17th November, then after that I'll match people up, so start thinking of gift ideas now.
We'll see how this goes, and I can do an update video in the new year with photos and stuff. Hopefully it can be the start of a tradition which we can keep going for years to come, and maybe even some connections and friendships can be formed from this.
WORK WITH NODE
Alright, so I mentioned I have been a bit quieter this year on the video front, and that's because I've been so busy. One area that's been taking an increasing amount of time is the shop, and that's awesome, but it doesn't leave me much time for anything else.
So, I think it's time I started looking for outside help, and see if any of you good folks would be interested.
I'm looking for people in the UK who want to make a bit of money, by using your soldering skills or putting your 3D printers, CNC mills or reflow ovens to work for a few hours a month.
We could set up a system were I can send you the parts, you solder or assemble them, send them back, then I pay you per piece done.
You'll need to have an eye for detail, and the 3D print standard needs to be up to scratch, but other than that there will be no super tight deadlines or anything.
If you're interested, email me, and tell me a bit about yourself. Include your skills, any special equipment you have that may be useful, like 3D printers etc, the number of hours you can spare a week, where in the country you live, and maybe throw in some photo or video examples of work you've done.
I'm also looking for a video editor too. This can be anywhere in the world, and will be pretty straight forward. It should only take maybe an hour per video for an experienced editor, since the style is so simple.
Again, send me en email telling me about yourself, your skills, your portfolio, and your hourly rate.
Thanks people, I look forward to hearing from you.
OK, finally I've had an idea for a site that I think many of you would find useful, and am looking for a developer to collab with to make it happen.
I want to set up a single page feed site, which aggregates the most interesting links from around the web for the day or week.
The idea I had is that it becomes the go-to, bookmarkable page for folks interested in the kind of topics we all love. So headlines about crypto, 3D printing, open hardware and software, privacy etc. Maybe even throw in interesting technology job openings, new, interesting software projects launched, and computer security alerts that you need to be aware of.
A simple all-in-one page that you can scan through to see what's happening, without wasting time, and a nice respite from all the political nonsense that's injected everywhere these days.
I'm agnostic on the technology used, but it needs to basically pull from a pool of feeds, then after some curation, updates the page every day or so.
If you're interested, email me, and tell me how you think you'd go about making it. Let's do this.
Alright, that's it for this video. I just wanted to say thank you for all the support, I really do appreciate it, and hopefully together we can start building this thing into a world-changing beast. Also, can't wait to see how many join the secret santa. Cheers, see ya in the next video.
